The Stories that Make Us: Creative Life-Writing with Wind&Bones!
In affiliation with Sofia University’s AFEAS (the Academic Foundation for English and American Studies), we will be offering writing courses exploring memoir, life-writing, creative non-fiction & more.
The last few years have seen a surge in interest in writing from first-person perspectives. This course will explore how to turn your own experiences and perspectives into writing others will want to read. We’ll look at the fundamentals of writing, we’ll explore questions of imagination, truth and ethics, and we’ll introduce participants to the flourishing market for selling and publishing your work.
The course will be taught by Dr. Hannah Stevens and Dr. Will Buckingham. Hannah and Will are both widely published writers. Hannah has a PhD in creative writing from the University of Leicester. Her first book-length collection In Their Absence is due out from Roman Books in 2020. She has written for publications including Litro, Unthank Books’s Unthology and High Spirits from Valley Press. Will has a PhD in philosophy. He is the author of eleven books, and is currently working on a book for Granta (UK) called Hello Stranger: Stories of Connection in a Divided World. His publications include essays for Aeon Magazine, the BBC and elsewhere.
This is a twelve-hour course that will be taught in both two-day format and three-week format. The content and price of the two courses will be the same, so you can book on either, depending on your schedule!
Event Date & Time:
Two day course: 7th and 14th December (11am-5pm)
Three week course: 3rd, 5th, 10th, 12th, 17th, 19th December 11am – 1pm
