After a launch that set the bar high, with Interstellar Funk and Elena Colombi’s massive back to back, we had to do something special for the follow-up. We are extremely excited by the privilege of being able to announce this one. As usual, expect cosmic sounds from refined selectors, courtesy of Autarkic, Manfredas and Stephan Panev, supported by rising talent Snob.
The music that Manfredas makes and plays is a unique brand of freaky psychedelia borrowed from new wave, leftfield disco, synth-pop and krautrock, and fused into dancefloor gold. Signed to Ivan Smagghe’s label Les Disques De La Mort, Mult Culti and Red Axes’s Garzen Records, he is also one of the key figures at Vilnius’ Opium club, where he runs his “Smala” party. There Manfredas has been central to creating a culture that led many world class DJs to call it their favourite club and that has placed the Lithuanian capital into the global clubbing map. From the unique way he palms the jog wheel, to the ardent torque of his dancing, music feels a little more impactful in his presence. Needless to say, we are thrilled.
Tel Aviv’s Autarkic wouldn’t be sitting amongst Disco Halal‘s elite team if he wasn’t responsible for some of the most wonderfully weird music out there. Autarkic is first and foremost a songwriter, creator of some of the finest vocal tunes out there, and his releases are sought after by classic labels such as Life and Death and Turbo Recording. His wide music spectrum goes from remixes of traditional Israeli music to minimalist dancefloor-oriented tracks. We see him as one of the most exciting and diverse acts to recently embark on the landscape of contemporary electronic music. And one that we’re more than excited about welcoming to our stage.
Those who’ve scratched the surface are familiar with Stephan Panev the techno artist, owner of the KOMPONENTI label. Dig a little deeper, and his output becomes rather diverse. Under a wide range of alter-egos, including but not limited to Define One, Females and Nelegat, Stephan has dipped his toes into everything from drone and ambient, through trap, drum and bass and wave, and is the man behind the criminally underrated 2011 album “Self”. Behind the decks, he is hands down one of the most refined DJs we have ever listened to. On several occasions his selection and its quality have held us hostage during long-form after-hours sets, keeping us tied to the dancefloor as weekends slipped into Monday mornings. Having him close Ние is truly an honor, and we look forward to leaving our souls on the dancefloor.
Opening duties are handed to Snob. It is hard to come to terms with his youth if you have listened to a few of his sets. His capacity to deal anything from Detroit Electro and breakbeat to the depths of turkish psych and bulgarian socialist space disco, willingness to go weird and ability to venture just past the listener’s comfort zone are all traits of a seasoned selector with decades’ worth of gigs – while Vladi has just passed the mid-point of his 20s.. During our launch he played obscure rarities in the b-room. We are excited to see what his main room record bag will hold.
